Timing is Everything
There's one thing about the music composition business that continues to intrigue me, and that's how it all comes down to timing. Not just within the music itself, but often with the nature of the job.
Last week I was asked to score a national TV spot for the Humane Society to promote the rescue of abused and deserted animals. They wanted music that was very slow, plaintive and a reflection of the lives of these animals...and they wanted it fast. After looking at the spot a few times, I wrote a very simple piece using a piano and string quartet.
Thanks to talented and accessible musicians, a spark of creativity and file transfer technology, the track was composed, arranged, recorded, mixed and delivered to the client, all in a single days work.
