Premiere of PBS film on Albert Schweitzer
"Albert Schweitzer: Called to Africa" premieres on PBS this coming Sunday, April 22 (check your local listings). This new docudrama is the true story of the brilliant philosopher and humanitarian who left a life of privilege in Europe, trained as a doctor and went to Africa to care for the people of the French Congo (now Gabon).
Composing the score for this film gave me a chance to write serious European organ music, African music, and even a few places where I could combine the two styles. Best of all, I finally got a chance to play with all of those African percussion instruments that have been lying around the studio.... ;-)
