An American Creed
You know, I keep thinking in 20 years of composing music I've pretty much written it all, but then some new music project comes along to prove me wrong. I mean, I've written a comedy jingle for a cemetery, that smash hit "Proud To Be A Teamster"; I've even composed a musical tribute to the element zinc...
Scoring a new documentary for the Hallmark Channel ("The American Creed", tentatively scheduled to premiere July 4) turned out to be a pretty interesting project. There were the expected music cues to be composed, but then the the client asked me to write a (no kidding) 70's rock 'n' roll instrumental version of "America The Beautiful". Hmmm..... no problem, I said - without a clue as to how this might be pulled off...
Anyway, you can judge for yourself how it turned out. I've included three samples from the score for you. The first is a pretty dramatic music cue dealing the abhorrent treatment of Indians in the 1800's, the second is that 70's "America The Beautiful" rock thing, and the final sample is the film's closing theme. Just click on the links below to listen.
Still fortunate to have lots of projects coming up, including scoring a new film about football coach Bobby Bowden for ESPN, a film about Albert Schweitzer for the Hallmark Channel, a brand new film about autism for NOVA (PBS), plus several other major projects.
I know none of the samples below sound anything like the music samples I've posted lately, but what the heck - enjoy!
